Here at Chelsea we offer a friendly and stimulating environment to help you gain confidence in English. The emphasis is on communication, both oral and written, through active student participation.

All classes are conducted in English and we use the internationally recognised Cambridge Assessment English model for all our classes and exams.  Cambridge provide the world’s leading range of qualifications and tests for learners and teachers of English.  Their qualifications and tests are accepted by over 25,000 organisations worldwide, and they help to provide the English language skills to communicate and succeed in the real world.

We believe the key to successfully learning a language is to work on all of its respective areas. The five main fields of focus for us are:  Listening, Speaking, Writing, Reading & Use of English. At `The Chelsea English Centre´, our courses promote these 'core skills' because they're fundamental in becoming fluent in the English language.

In order to achieve this, we use a number of different activities in our classrooms; some of these skills can also be worked on at home: SPEAKING, LISTENING, READING & USE OF ENGLISH and WRITING. At The Chelsea English Centre we sincerely believe that you will achieve it because “your objectives are our goals” and you receive a Cambridge Certification at the end of it. Exams which are held at our Centre in Rivas which is also very convenient for everyone.

SPEAKING IN ENGLISH:

Speak as often and as much as possible! There is nothing better than conversation to help you improve. Whilst you can practice reading, writing, and listening on your own, it’s obviously better to speak English with someone. The best way to do this is to be in an English speaking environment, this is why speaking forms such an integral part of our classes.  In time, we aim to get our students into the habit of thinking in English and not just to translate from Spanish into English.

LISTENING TO ENGLISH:

This is a skill which can be worked on outside the classroom as well as inside. At `The Chelsea English Centre´ we use a variety of different tools to improve the listening skills of our students, such as: Audio CD´s, DVD´s & CD ROMs.

We also promote the use of activities such as role-playing, conversation and for our older students, presentations, to encourage our students to listen to one-another and really develop an `ear for the language´.

READING AND USE OF ENGLISH:

Another skill which can be honed outside the classroom is reading. Newspapers and magazines are good for higher level students and are readily available, so there really is no excuse for not practicing your reading.  For lower levels try reading children’s stories or books which have been especially written for English learners. The aim is not to choose a book that is too difficult or too easy, or you won´t learn much.  You should look for something that will be challenging, fun, and will aid you in developing a broader vocabulary.

WRITING ENGLISH:

At `The Chelsea English Centre´ we will not only teach you how to write in English, we will develop and improve your standard of writing in English for work, study and everyday use. From emails to reports, application letters to essays, and letter writing to blogging, we will teach you different writing styles and help you write English with confidence.
